Good news for Bangladeshi nationals who are planning a medical treatment in India. Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has announced that online visa application services are being resumed for Bangladeshi citizens. Initially visa applications have been opened for following categories:
- Diplomatic personnel
- UN officials
- UN diplomats.
Visa applications in other categories are also expected to open soon.
India is a prefered medical tourism destination for Bangladeshi citizens. Every year lakhs of patients come to India for all kinds of treatments.
From January 2018 to March 2019, 2,876,000 Bangladeshi citizens visited India, and on average 10% of them went there for treatment.
Most of the medical tourist arrivals in India are from Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, and SAARC region. India also receives significant number of medical tourists from Australia, Canada, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.The city of Chennai has come to known as the healthcare capital of India.
At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic India stopped entry of all foreigners into its territory by halting visa approvals on March 12. The latest move by HCI Dhaka has revived hope for citizens in other countries too, who are waiting for medical visa to resume.
