Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the uterus (womb) through an incision in the abdomen or vagina. This surgery may also include removal of the cervix, ovaries, Fallopian tubes, and other surrounding structures.
Types of Hysterectomy:
- Partial hysterectomy:In this procedure, only a portion of the uterus is removed. This procedure leaves the cervix intact.
- Total Hysterectomy:In this procedure, the entire uterus, including the cervix is removed.
- Hysterectomy or Salpingo-Oophorectomy:In this procedure, the uterus along with one or both of the ovaries and fallopian tubes are removed. The patient may need hormone replacement therapy if both of the ovaries are removed.
