  • The causes of multiple sclerosis are unknown. This is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its tissues.

Symptoms

Symptoms of multiple sclerosis differ from person to person. Symptoms more often affect movement, such as:

  • Numbness or weakness in one or more limbs occurs on one side of the body at a time, legs, or trunk.
  • Electric-shock sensations that occur with certain neck movements, especially bending the neck forward (Lhermitte sign)
  • Tremor, lack of coordination, or unsteady gait

Some other symptoms are:

  • Vision problem- partial or complete loss of vision, prolonged double vision, or blurry vision.
  • Slurred speech
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Tingling or pain in parts of the body
